Lexus LF-LC-based rendering could herald the next SC

Since the MKIV and 1990-2000 SC/Soarer shared A LOT of things, I figured I would put this here. I know a lot of you will be looking forward to seeing it although you might not buy it. Hopefully the production model looks close enough to this or at least has a design that's just as nice.

The buzz generated by the recent RC F hasn't even fully subsided yet and already another Lexus coupe rumor is circulating. This time, it's a replacement for the defunct Lexus SC 430 seemingly based on the LF-LC concept.

Japanese auto-tabloid rumor mill Best Car Magazine has issued a rendering of what they are speculating is the next Lexus SC. Taking its overall shape from the pair of well-received Lexus LF-LC concepts, the body details have been toned down for production.

The LF-LC's insect-eye headlights have been replaced with more traditional units, underscored by Lexus's LED fishhook swooshes. The grille, rendered in the full-length mesh pattern reserved for F Sport and F performance models, falls in line with other Lexus production models and eschews the recessed chrome surround of the show car. The LF-LC's floating roof is also gone, replaced with a more traditional C-pillar formed in what has been called the Nozaki Arc, a design cue seen on everything from the Scion FR-S to the Toyota FT-1 concept referencing the Toyota's original sports car, the 1967 2000GT.

The SC name harkens back to the 1991 Lexus SC 300/400, widely regarded as one of the marque's best designs. Its follow up, the 2001 SC 430, became a folding-hardtop luxury convertible, and its deviation from from the GT sports coupe formula was panned by enthusiasts. Though this rendering is unofficial, last December Lexus LFA chief engineer Haruhiko Tanahashi and executive VP Mark Templin both hinted that we had not seen the last of the LF-LC and that "LFA-like" flagship would be forthcoming.

So is this Lexus SC basically going to be a fancier version of the Toyota Supra? You can see many design cues carried from one to the other. The headlights, the front fascia air scoops, the roofline.

No, a production LF-LC will use the LS platform.

Lexus LF-LC is a luxury coupe, which will be placed on the Lexus LS sedan platform, made of aluminum and carbon fiber, but much reduced.

the LF-LC concept could be based on a shortened version of the LS sedan’s chassis and be powered by a hybrid powertrain.

Update: Lexus claims that LF-LC has 438hp on Facebook. I'm guessing that could just be the base model.

Im guessing that could be a mid or top trim. Not sure how much higher they will go with power. It's supposed to be the next SC, which is a luxury cruiser, GT car.

I don't think Lexus has ever said anything about the LF-LC being the next "SC". Those were the media's words. If anything its a brand new model that will underpin the next LS.

I don't think its the flagship model. The LF-LC Blue AWD concept was reported to make over 500hp. This could end up being the LC-F version. And could do battle against the CL600 with 510hp or CL63 AMG with 536hp?
