As with any sports car I think that there is a natural wondering if there will be a convertible version. After all, 2-seaters look best as a convertible in my opinion. Sure, we don't have any idea what the production Supra is going to look like, but that doesn't have to stop us from speculating on what a possible Supra convertible would be like.
The above render shows the FT1 Concept as a convertible. It looks a bit awkward with the FT-1 like nose. Considering I'm not expecting the concept to be exactly like the production version, it seems pretty unlikely that the Supra convertible would look like this.
Top Speed shows us a Supra Convertible that looks much more like a possible production version. They have given it a more normal nose, and they have made the headlights a bit less extreme as well.
Previous Supras have not gotten the convertible treatment however. This leads me to believe that it is not a done deal that there will be a next-generation Supra convertible, though Top Speed predicts that it will come out a year after the Supra Coupe comes out. As the Supra is a performance vehicle, I am also a little skeptical about the added weight that the convertible roof requires.
Do you think they will make a Supra convertible? Would you be interested in one?
Seeing how amazing that rendering looks, if the production model looks that good as a convertible then I hope they do. Seeing how it's a platform that BMW and Toyota will be sharing it's even possible they can share some components and parts for the guts of the system for the drop top, cut cost their too.
I don't like FT1 convertible to be honest. Convertibles we're never part of the Supra repertoire. The Top speed render is more a Targa than a ragtop, which I could see flying quite well considering MKIV Supra was available with a Targa...
Targa would also be good. I think its important to realize that the rendering used here makes some assumptive changes to the Supra that could be very different from what we actually get in the production model. I could see people buying into the targa model though. It won't fly with people who are interested in maximum performance though. Extra weight and wind resistance.
