2018 Toyota Supra Spotted With Production Body

Toyota’s new Supra is still under camouflage, but this time it was spotted with what may be production bodywork.

Resulting from a partnership with BMW, the new Supra is rumored to have a six-cylinder turbocharged engine and maybe even a hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and two motors. We still have a while to wait until Toyota reveals the Supra powertrain as it’s expected to go on sale in 2018, so for now we’ll have to be content with spy shots and videos.

From what we can see in the spy shots, courtesy of GT Spirit, the Supra Prototype is paying homage to the stoplight-style taillights from the old A80-generation Supra, just more tapered and with two less bulbs. Rounding out the rear is a fixed rear wing out and a dual exhaust system.

At the front are design elements reminiscent of the FT-1 concept including its oval-shaped headlights and three grille opening. Instead of a nose bisecting the lower grille as seen in the concept, the Supra’s is broken up with a central vent.

Even though both the Z5 roadster and Supra share the same platform and are expected to be produced in the same assembly plant, we’re most likely not going to see a convertible variant from Toyota.

Tapered with two less bulbs.. sounds like it's taking notes off of a Mercury Cougar ? Lol.

We shouldn't see a convertible variant from Toyota because they've never had a convertible Supra. We could see a targa though.

i just hope it actually looks good in the end, but still wouldn't mind tail lights similar to the concept:

but any way to pay homage to the original is always welcomed, as long as execution is done right. the only downside is when you have this big gap between the MKIV and where we're at now, it won't be as seamless as the R34 GT-R and R35 GT-R.

The rear shot on the concept car is so PERFECT. Please Toyota. Love the circular exhausts exiting bodywork. Love the aggressive rear diffuser. C'mon Toyota .... make it right. Please. Pretty please.

I wish but I can't see it happening. I can picture a diffusor that has 2 exhaust cutouts in the bottom but that's about it.

I have been long awaiting this..
