Next GTR will be a Hybrid...

Hybrid is the way to performance without penalty (modern regulations), Nissan knows this...

So we asked Nakamura-san if he'd seen any of the speculative renderings the internet has spewed out, all purporting to show how the new GT-R will absolutely definitely look.

"Yes, I've seen them," Shiro smiles. "Not one of them is close [to how the car will look]". But what about the Vision Gran Turismo (pictured above)? Any GT-R clues in that virtual concept car?

"Maybe some elements from the front and rear, but that is a mid-engined car. Mizuno-san [the GT-R's legendary father] says the GT-R will always be a front-engined 2+2-seater coupe."

So, no need to worry about a GT-R crossover or convertible, then? Nakamura-san grins and shakes his head. Phew. "It will be a hybrid," he confirms, "but not mid-engined."

Had a feeling this would be the case, it's really the only next best step for them to take with a vehicle like this, anything else just wouldn't be sufficient and moving with the changing times.

I'm glad they are doing this. It's cool to see perceptions change so that hybrid vehicles can be seen as fast performance cars instead of just cars for tree huggers.

Since when were hybrids seen as just cars for tree huggers?
Last I checked, when you evaluate this tech, its potential for which ever angle a car maker goes with was very, very clear.

oh yea, which one have you seen? The top one is the vision GT and the bottom is just a random google image render i found...

In other news, not before 2018, Wonder if Toyota will get the Supra in the game before that, pre-empting demand? By all sounds from Nissan the R36 is going to be like a P1-lite with its hybrid tech, if Toyota can get themselves in FRONT of that...

Today or yesterday pictures of the new Maxima went online, although it's not that great of a reference point for the GT-R, it is a good look at the direction Nissan is taking when it comes to their new design language.
